Floatation pants provide an extra back up if you should ever fall into the water while you are on ship.  Floatation pants  wont weight you down if you fall into the waterFloatation coats provide you with  extra layer of protection yes it will help you from drowning but it will also offer some defense against hypothermia. If you plan on fishing in rough water its a good idea to get floatation pants and or coat  a  just in case you go over board these can save your life.
